Web3 Magic - interviews with builders of novel blockchain solutions
S3E7 - Jimi and Treegens - Guinness World Records in planting trees onchain
Summary
Jimmy, the founder of TreeGens, shares his quite fascinating journey into the crypto space and his mission to promote tree planting and our planet's regeneration. TreeGens is a decentralized platform that rewards individuals for planting trees, starting with mangroves. The platform uses Web3 technologies to track and verify tree planting, and participants earn tokens for verified actions. Jimi and the team are focused on scaling up tree-planting efforts and partnering with NGOs, governments, influencers, and indigenous communities.
They also plan to launch NFTs to further gamify the experience. Jimmy and I encourage everyone to join the movement and positively impact the environment.
Remember, anyone can plant trees and get rewarded. RegFi is a movement!

BFG (Pete) (00:01.166)
Hello everyone. And we are back. This is Web3Magick, I'm BFG, or Pete and I am here today with Jimmy. And you know, if you don't know Jimmy, I am surprised because I see him everywhere around the timeline and the guy is just planting trees. And you know, he has a Guinness record for that. So we will talk about this. Welcome, Jimmy. It's pretty cool.
Jimi (00:21.633)
Thank you, Pete. I appreciate you. It's great to be
BFG (Pete) (00:25.804)
Wonderful. So let's jump right into the first question. How did you get to crypto? for crypto entries, it's not very usual.
Jimi (00:32.237)
Okay. I don't know, man. It's becoming a thing. It's becoming a thing. But look, I've heard about crypto in the early days, maybe like 2012 or something like that, or earlier actually, because I remember was still in Japan at the time. But when did I really arrive in crypto? When did I start participating in crypto? I was actually in a remote part of Kenya. I was in Malindi.
Malindi, Kenya, the coast of Kenya. I was actually doing clean water projects at the time. I was teaching people how to build bio sand water filters from local materials and we're helping people start these as businesses and things like this. That was my previous nonprofit called We Make Impact. And my friend who actually specialized in blockchain at my university, I went to UBC over in Vancouver, Canada. He hit me up right as NFTs were going crazy.
BFG (Pete) (01:07.64)
Wow.
BFG (Pete) (01:24.184)
Got you.
Jimi (01:26.951)
And he's like, Jimmy, people are using this technology to fund good causes and help with transparency and all kinds of different things like that. And so he's like, we should really do something here. Let's do something together. And so let's jump in. I kind of wish I did just kind of go ahead first, but I first really took my time to better understand the technology. I went down this rabbit hole of YouTube and
BFG (Pete) (01:40.709)
Let's jump in.
Jimi (01:55.021)
And then I started interviewing people and I started picking their brains and learning about it. And, you know, with Max Impact, we've done like 470 episodes now. So it's been a lot of education. And we pivoted and I originally, was actually going to, I was going to start a marketplace for NFTs for impactful NFTs. And then that didn't quite work out. And then I got involved in Rotary Clubs. You might've heard of Rotary Clubs. They're like philanthropic, you know, organizations.
BFG (Pete) (02:21.016)
Right? Yeah, yeah. Pretty old school.
Jimi (02:23.597)
Yeah, there's an old school... I'm actually third generation Rotarian, so my grandparents on both sides are Rotarians. But I started getting involved in the Rotary Club in Kenya and I learned how they were doing all kinds of projects, but one of them was planting trees and they were planting mangrove trees and I learned that mangroves absorb 8 to 10 times more carbon out of the atmosphere compared with all terrestrial forests.
BFG (Pete) (02:27.369)
got you.
Jimi (02:46.605)
So, and they're also super efficient to plant and they help with biodiversity and they help with the coastlines from erosion. They even help the coral reefs. It's an amazing tree. It's become a bit of a mangrove maxi. yeah, and so, and I mean, I've always loved the environment. My mother's an environmentalist. I planted my first tree when I was four years old. In 2019, I did a fundraiser that was pretty meaningful to me at the time. But as these worlds were coming together, I was thinking, you know
BFG (Pete) (02:48.302)
They don't know that.
BFG (Pete) (02:57.002)
I can see that.
Jimi (03:13.485)
Climate affects everything, including the water crisis. I went Web 2 at first doing tree planting stuff, and then now I'm really going all in on the Web 3 side to ultimately build a world where anyone can plant trees and get rewarded. That's one of the beautiful things of this technology. It can be decentralized in the sense where you can reward people all around the world, irrespective of biases and all these things. People can just learn through our app, the methodology, how to plant.
They film before and after, the AI counts the trees, the DAO verifies, and they get tokens, which they could sell, but if they decide to hold them, then they can get other rewards from carbon projects or grant funding and stuff like that that we do. So yeah, that's how we got there. I might have jumped to the second question already. Go ahead.
BFG (Pete) (03:45.164)
There you
BFG (Pete) (03:51.118)
Cool, we sidetracked. when... Good. Yeah, let's jump to the first question. So when did you launch the... When did you actually arrive? Like you felt I am now in crypto and I want to stay. Was it 2021 or later?
Jimi (04:09.005)
Okay, you know what? This was, I would say the moment where I was like, these are my people. Like, okay, I'm actually like a part of something here. That was when I did ETHCC, not last, not this year. Not actually the year before that, but the year before that. Okay, so this would be 2022.
BFG (Pete) (04:26.99)
sure.
BFG (Pete) (04:37.631)
Okay.
Jimi (04:38.333)
summertime, that was when I stumped by accident. So I was actually in Italy visiting family and then I heard about ethcc happening in France and I'm like, you know, let me go check that out. I didn't have a ticket, by the way, it was sold out, I made friends with the sponsors and they gave me an extra wristband and I went inside and met everyone. It was great. But then I stumbled upon by accident the Sustainability Blockchain Summit, which happened right immediately
ETHCC. And so I also made my way into there and network with all kinds of people. And that's when I really realized that refi regenerative finance is actually an ecosystem. There are so many people that are building towards this regenerative future using the latest and greatest technologies. And I really felt like, okay, these are my people. Okay, this is a thing
Let's really try to push this thing forward. And so now I'm doing Let's Grow Dao as well to unite and grow this regen movement because collectively there's so much more that we can accomplish than trying to build in silos. So tree gens and Let's Grow Dao are my two web three babies.
BFG (Pete) (05:48.142)
Gotcha. Okay. So it's relatively recent because I've, you know, most of the people I get on a podcast turns out they started like 2011 or 2016. So it's, but don't worry, most of them bought and sold. they didn't hold. So it doesn't matter. But you know, I like recent arrivals, honestly, because I feel like I am sort of recent arrival. I actually.
Jimi (05:58.861)
kicking myself so much, know? I'm kicking myself so much, hearing about it and yeah. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
BFG (Pete) (06:17.23)
I wouldn't even call myself a full -time Web3 person, but I definitely have been around from 2020, which still feels recent. So, refi, Summit, all good. How did you turn that into 3Gens? Was the 3Gens the idea which was here before, or it was
Jimi (06:41.619)
BFG (Pete) (06:46.22)
This is a nice fit and I always wanted to do something like this.
Jimi (06:52.107)
Yeah, well, ever since reading the Steve Jobs book when I was in university by Isaac Wasserman, something like that, I've been really inspired by technology and how you can make a scalable difference through that. yeah, so I have always kind of wanted to do something in tech and make a positive impact. this was the way, but this idea has really evolved.
over time. I said, initially we were doing the Web2 tree planting. So we were just going to plant trees and then make it a token and then sell the token. that, you know, it added a bit of extra transparency, but it wasn't going to have the kind of scalable impact and really empowering impact for all the people on the ground. So the way that TreeGens works, so this after, you know,
We brought in some incredible advisors onto our team. If you check out our advisors on our Gitcoin page, not only Mangrove advisor, we have like six, seven experts in different continents, different countries that are advising us on Mangrove methodologies, but also that, know, refi experts like Gregory Lando, the guy who came up with the term refi and Griff Green, who started Giveth and all kinds of really incredible organizations. We've had a lot of back and forth and also with my partners as well on how we can make the most impactful solution.
What we settled on is decentralized tree planting so that anyone, we're starting with mangroves, but we do plan to expand into all kinds of different trees and methodologies into the future. But we're starting with mangroves. So you learn methodology. In app, it takes your GPS as you're filming. And by the way, we created a lot of these solutions because we've experienced the firsthand challenges trying to do this without Web3 technologies and without an app as well.
BFG (Pete) (08:27.938)
We'll see. Okay.
Jimi (08:46.423)
For example, going into Google Maps and a lot of the people who are planting the trees that we're hiring, like community -based organizations and people in remote regions of Kenya, Tanzania, now expanding to Thailand, they sometimes just got a smartphone recently, right? And so going into Google Maps and getting the pin and copying the pin into a spreadsheet for the GPS can sometimes be a challenge. Going to Google Drive, even people who have used Google, yeah, exactly.
BFG (Pete) (09:09.868)
That's how you did it before. Okay.
Jimi (09:13.261)
And that's how we used to do it. And so even people who are very used to Google G Suite sometimes share a link, and then you've to ask for permissions to see the link. They didn't go into the settings and change it to edit anyone with link. So these challenges were really frustrating, obviously, trying to do this from a Web2 perspective. So now that we're launching this DAP, this proof of plant DAP, it automatically takes your GPS. You film in the app. So no one can upload anything and try to.
And then you have an additional layer once you submit those videos and the AI counts the trees. Now we have multiple verifiers who have staked their governance tokens. So similar to proof of stake where you have your tokens at stake to do verification. If someone does something maliciously, they're saying yes, yes, yes, yes, or no, no, no, no, where it should have been the other way because you have multiple verifiers to look into this,
they actually lose their governance token and get slashed. We have this slashing mechanism for TGN, which is our governance token. And then we have mgrow, which can only be created through the proof of plant protocol. We have to prove that you've planted those trees through the AI tree counting and methodology with ADAP and then the TGN. And 95 % of all those rewards for tree planting goes directly to the tree planters. And then 5 % goes to the verifiers.
So this is not a way to centralize and try to build this big pot of funds through that. It's really about how do we distribute to everyone? How do we fuel the movement all around the world? And at the same time, us as a DAO, we're doing carbon projects. We're kicking one off very soon over in Brazil. We have an MOU with the Brazilian Carbon Credit Cooperative. And so basically, when they plant mangrove trees,
BFG (Pete) (10:35.5)
Mm -hmm.
Jimi (11:05.271)
we're going to be doing something called a carbon forward. So a carbon forward is where you sell the future value of the carbon credits to impact investors and carbon developers at a discounted rate before they're issued. And even though it's at a discounted rate, it's still an order of magnitude more funds than what it's costing us to plant in the first place. Right. And so this means that we can it's approximately 9x. So we can multiply the trees.
BFG (Pete) (11:13.496)
you see.
Jimi (11:30.189)
You do another forward on that, multiply the trees, rinse and repeat until we're exponentially scaling regeneration. And we take a portion of those funds and we send that out to everyone that stakes the mgrow token. So in this way, we can make people bullish on tree planting, bullish on regeneration. That's what we want. After I broke the first world record, step one, right? I have a Guinness World Record most trees planted in 24 hours. The reason I did that three times, by the way.
BFG (Pete) (11:33.655)
Got
BFG (Pete) (11:41.922)
Okay.
Jimi (11:56.365)
Three attempts, third attempt's a charm, finally got it, is because that's a stepping stone towards the next record which is most trees planted by any number of people. That's what really inspires me to make this whole thing happen is, you know, the official record is 560 million in a day. Just one country, Ethiopia, did that. Now imagine if on Earth Day, yeah, that's 560 million, okay? So that's one country, 23 million Ethiopians.
BFG (Pete) (11:57.632)
Was it like three attempts? Nice!
BFG (Pete) (12:17.388)
What? Say that number again.
Seriously, wow.
Jimi (12:25.291)
got together and they planted trees for a day, right? Now, that's one country. Imagine if Ethiopia plus many other countries are competing to see who can plant the most trees on Earth Day. That's what we're working towards, you know, and so our ambitious goal is a billion trees in a day. And
Yeah, so we got to get there. so that's obviously not just going to be Tree Gems, right? That's going to be the movement which we're uniting and growing, but Tree Gems is going to play a key role in that because we're going to be able to track and reward tree planting all across the world, all across the coast and the equator. There's more than 80 countries where mangrove trees currently grow. And that's what's going be ready for Earth Day. so, yeah, it's all coming together. And once we accomplish that, real quick, Pete, once we accomplish
BFG (Pete) (12:47.246)
Pretty neat.
BFG (Pete) (13:02.869)
Nice.
BFG (Pete) (13:08.397)
Wow.
BFG (Pete) (13:12.366)
So.
Jimi (13:16.641)
the movement will be unstoppable, right? Then we get, what can't we do? You know what I mean?
BFG (Pete) (13:20.884)
Right, right. Got you. So I had a couple of questions. You actually answered one of them. I was like, who is paying for that? Selling the forward -going carbon credits is a popular strategy, and I would say pretty advanced strategy for crypto projects. So congratulations. Also works very nicely for the start. So do you guys?
So obviously all the numbers are sort of amazing, I would say. I'm not a refi expert, but millions of trees basically just sound like a great achievement and hundreds of millions, sure. Yeah.
Jimi (14:05.111)
hundreds of millions. And by the way, someone's got to fund that too, right? So yeah, so that's going to be... So there's kind of four categories, right? So NGOs, groups that already plant trees, we're going to partner with them and say, go extra hard on Earth Day, right? Let's freaking grow. And then there's governments, right? And they're also tapping into carbon credits, right? Governments can earn carbon credits and they can even make a return on what they invest in tree planting if they can sell the credits, right? And then there's also influencers.
BFG (Pete) (14:15.957)
Great.
Sure.
Jimi (14:32.045)
I was once live for 60 hours straight. Me, personally live. Interviewing a new person almost every hour. Okay, like great. Why would you do something like this? Well, I was literally hallucinating by the end of it. It was insane. The PFPs on the Twitter spaces were like moving. But the reason I did that was to get the attention of Mr. Beast and get connected. I now have four points of contact with one degree separation to probably the biggest influence in the world at this point, Mr. Beast. But we're going
BFG (Pete) (14:36.769)
Seriously.
BFG (Pete) (14:40.571)
Wow. My way.
BFG (Pete) (14:59.649)
Impressive.
Jimi (15:01.165)
all tons of influences, right, to really engage the world and grow the movement. And then there's also engaging Indigenous communities in this process as well. So, you know, together, united, we can make tree planting history. And, you know, and we got to do it. mean, there's only a couple billion trees planted a year in total right now, but 12 billion are being cut down every year. So it's a pretty big gap there that needs to be filled. Yeah.
BFG (Pete) (15:05.88)
good
BFG (Pete) (15:16.194)
Love
BFG (Pete) (15:26.238)
Okay, now we got the numbers. All right. Wow, pretty big numbers. do you... Are you good? I can see that. Getting excited and cut the light. Okay, so you guys support tree planting. Do you also check out whether the trees actually continue growing or what happens after
Jimi (15:30.663)
So if we can do one a day, we got
Let's get it done today. It's a year's work. We're just going to knock it out.
Jimi (15:53.217)
Yeah. Yeah. So the way that we're doing that with TreeGens is you get one sixth of an mGrow token, minus five percent, roughly a sixth, for the initial plant. Okay. And then every six months over the course of three years, you get another one sixth for doing a health check. And any that don't survive are then reflected in the issuance of mGrow.
such that one token eventually equates to one mangrove tree that actually grew to the point of three years. If grows to the point of three years, very high chance of it growing to full height. Yeah, so that's the way that we're doing that, to really build it in a way that we can have those rewards there for also taking care of it. And we're also looking into things
BFG (Pete) (16:32.686)
continue basically. I see.
Jimi (16:50.293)
impact investors, not only for the carbon projects, but for microfinancing. So we really want to support regenerative businesses that depend on the mangroves. So, for example, the most delicious honey I've ever had in my entire life actually comes from mangroves. I got this in a place called Shimoni, which is in Kenya by the coast of Tanzania. And it's, of course, organic because it's a natural mangrove field.
It's dark and it has all these antioxidants in it that are super healthy. And I want to support those kinds of businesses or, know, crab farming or ecotourism or these businesses that depend on the mangroves, right? Because, you know, in Kenya, was told at one point you can get five years in prison for chopping down mangroves, but people still do it because if you got to put food on the table, people can do whatever it takes, right? ultimately, our economy values the degeneration of nature more than it values the regeneration of nature. And I think that is
great potential of refi is to actually realign, to put our values back into our valuables and what we value as a society because there is a lot of value there. If you factor in all these different things, it might not be as immediate and available to someone who can chop a tree and get some charcoal and sell that. But what
BFG (Pete) (18:11.611)
Nicely said.
Jimi (18:12.521)
Web3 can do is it can take that value that actually exists and just make it easily accessible to the people on the ground so that they can get these rewards and also protect the trees because they see it as valuable,
BFG (Pete) (18:25.374)
So that's all good. Let's do a little bit of Web3 speak. It's a warning for those who are not DGENs. You can still be 3GENs probably. So on what chains you guys
Jimi (18:30.701)
Thanks, man.
Jimi (18:36.959)
Okay, we'll translate it for you.
Jimi (18:46.509)
So we actually haven't launched yet. We're launching, I think, in September, but Celo is the one that we're leading into. So Celo, you know, I'm very passionate about Earth Day. Celo actually launched on Earth Day, which is super cool of them. I believe they're carbon negative as a blockchain and they're a part of the Optimism Superchain. So Optimism has some pretty cool tech and retrofunding. The coolest grant opportunity of Optimism
BFG (Pete) (18:49.108)
I'm okay. Nice.
All
BFG (Pete) (18:59.794)
There you
Yeah, they say that.
BFG (Pete) (19:06.968)
Yeah, so it's good.
Jimi (19:16.149)
that you still qualify for as part of the Superchain is Growth Experiment Grant. So what's cool about Growth Experiment Grant, not only can it be quite substantial, it can be up to multiple million dollars, but you actually have to give it out to your end users. Some people might be turned off by that. For me, that's actually perfect because what we're trying to do is reward the tree planters, right? So, you know, whenever people
BFG (Pete) (19:33.907)
Yeah.
BFG (Pete) (19:37.42)
Yep.
Jimi (19:41.377)
getting these MGRID tokens, we can also set up these streams where every second crypto is sent out to them as a stream, people are like, wow, if I hold on to this, if I stake it, then you can get all these rewards. So that's what we want to do is growth experiment grant to really, like I said, fund the regenescence future that we all want to live
BFG (Pete) (19:49.677)
Mm -hmm.
BFG (Pete) (20:03.338)
Nice, nice. So do you think you will help onboard some people into Web3?
Jimi (20:12.497)
100%. I mean, I already have on board of many people into Web3, but people are following up with me. You know, we haven't launched TreeGens yet, right? But if you go into our Telegram, you'll see people in Nigeria, you'll see people in Kenya, you'll see people in different parts of the world who are like, yo, Jimmy, like, when can we plant trees and make money? Because I think that's just been from posting online, right? But also when I, I I lived in Kenya for three years, right? So in this area called Shimoni,
BFG (Pete) (20:30.914)
Yeah.
Jimi (20:40.939)
I was speaking with this guy. Okay, let me tell you a quick story. So Halima was in a field. So this is right after I did the tree planting Guinness World Record. We went there to film all the trees and you know, so when I went down there, I met this lady called Halima who is the head of the Chetechakalai CBO. actually she's the secretary, but she's like high up there. Anyway, so when I went to meet her, she was planting mangrove trees.
BFG (Pete) (20:45.326)
Sure.
BFG (Pete) (21:11.054)
Mm -hmm.
Jimi (21:12.049)
just around some propicules. And I said, hey, like, I'm curious, you know, has someone hired you to plant these trees? Because I know that, you know, there's an NGO that sometimes hires them to plant trees. And she started, she said, no, I just care about the environment. I just wanted to do this and I care about the way that this place looks. And so I asked, okay, well, how often does Plan International pay you guys to plant trees? She told me two days and I'm
like per month and she's like, no, per year. We get hired two days per year to plant trees. Right. And so she said there's incredibly high unemployment. A lot of people are self -employed though, like through fishing and things like this. But there aren't a lot of jobs there. And so when I explain this concept of being able to plant trees whenever you want and always be able to earn something for that, she lit up. She absolutely loved
and has been following up with me. And there are many communities that are ready as soon as we launch this thing. And I'm really excited for it, hopefully in September. We're starting with TGN, our governance token, and then we're launching mgrow and the whole proof of plant dap. And then we're launching NFTs as well to further gamify. So we already have leaderboards where the leaderboards are like, you know, how many have you funded? How many have you planted? Leaderboard for that will be fun. But then we also have these NFTs. This is the world's first dynamic.
semi -soulbound token. Here's what I mean by that. Dynamic, meaning it can change in two ways. So there's a light on the heart, which gets brighter when you fund trees. And there's a light on the... Sorry, that's the mind. And there's a light on the heart. This is your heart. Okay, so there's a light on your mind that gets brighter when you fund trees. And there's a light on your heart that gets brighter when you plant trees. We know that you've planted these trees because mgrow is issued to your wallet. So we track that. And we know that you've funded these trees.
BFG (Pete) (22:38.251)
Mm -hmm.
BFG (Pete) (22:45.806)
Okay.
BFG (Pete) (22:57.814)
threes.
Jimi (23:05.707)
when you burn the Amgro token. So similar to retiring a carbon credit, you're retiring this ecological credit, which is a mangrove credit. And so when you send that to the burn wallet address, the light on the the mind gets brighter and it's semi -soul bound because yeah, you can still trade the artwork and the background can also level up as you do these kind of regen activities and changing color. But those impact metrics, the light, the brightness of these lights, that's your high score.
BFG (Pete) (23:33.036)
Doesn't change.
Jimi (23:35.089)
You wouldn't want someone buying that. So to really keep it gamified, we're doing it semi -sole -down. So whichever NFT you connect to our DAP, that is the one that will have the lights there. And so you can still trade the art, but not the impact metrics that you've actually generated. So yeah, that's kind of the fourth phase of our roadmap. It's TGN.
BFG (Pete) (23:52.168)
Nice.
Jimi (23:59.521)
It's mGrow, these non -fundable update videos, which is the AI tree counting overlaid, and we send that to you when you bring the mGrow tokens, and then we're launching these NFTs as well. So it's a lot in the pipeline, and Celo Superchain is where we're going to live.
BFG (Pete) (24:08.758)
Awesome.
Is that all happening like, is that all happening this year
Jimi (24:17.112)
I hope so. mean, NFTs maybe a little bit later. We're kind of seeing how the NFT market is progressing. It took a big hit today. I mean, a lot of crypto is down today, but you know, I'm bullish on crypto and the long -term use case of NFTs. Obviously, it was a bit of a bubble initially, but I'm seeing the real world use cases resurge and very much bullish on where things are going to. hopefully this year.
BFG (Pete) (24:17.994)
Yeah, seriously, okay. No, it's a question, I mean.
Jimi (24:45.815)
but definitely TGN and Grow a Proof of Planet this year.
BFG (Pete) (24:48.898)
This year. nice. So basically everybody watch out for regions in September.
Jimi (24:54.125)
Watch out! By the way, we plant one tree per follower on at the tree gens. It's at the tree gens. Also, Jimmy Cohen, J -I -I -C -O -H -E -N. One tree per follower on both pages. So you can plant trees right now. Click, click.
BFG (Pete) (25:00.588)
Okay.
We'll put this in show notes for sure. Okay, there you go guys. You've seen it. I'll make sure you get some more growers then. Awesome. So maybe almost last question. So you gave us pretty detailed roadmap. I think it's pretty impressive what you guys are doing. So how big is the current team?
Jimi (25:11.053)
There you grow.
Jimi (25:26.423)
Thanks man.
Jimi (25:31.725)
It's about 11 people. Not everyone is full -time, but we have different partners and that's just like core team, And yeah, core team. Then we also have these different advisor teams and yeah, our full scope team is like, yeah, close to 30 people. But yeah, core team is like 11, you know, on and off for different things and some of us are full -time
BFG (Pete) (25:40.238)
Core team, yeah, I'm talking about core team. Obviously you have a lot of partners.
Jimi (26:00.267)
Yeah, when we launch soon, we've got a bunch of people who I would absolutely love to be full time and jump all in on it. So I'm really excited for our team to flourish and to fill the gaps. But we've also partnered with GM, so General Magic. They're one of the best UI UX designers in the space. They did Giveth, they did Token Engineering Commons, they did a whole bunch of really interesting projects in Web3 and Impact projects. So super grateful to have collaborated with them as well.
BFG (Pete) (26:08.92)
to
Jimi (26:29.613)
Proto Fire is doing our auditing. So yeah, we have our internal teams and then these other teams that we also bring together.
BFG (Pete) (26:34.222)
Sure. Nice, nice. Okay, maybe last question. if anybody is gut curious about like refi movement, not just three gens, are there any places you would send them, any events you would send them to if they wanna learn more?
Jimi (26:51.861)
Yeah, yeah. Great question. from the 7th... I don't know when this is going live. From the 7th to the 21st. Two weeks. Okay, so that'll be smack bang in the middle of it. There's something called Let's Grow Live. So every Gitcoin round, those of you who don't know Gitcoin... hold on, hold on, hold on. Hey, I don't know if you can see that. Yeah, I'm wearing my Gitcoin merch. Hey, fund what matters. Okay, so...
BFG (Pete) (26:59.32)
Probably in two weeks.
BFG (Pete) (27:04.93)
Yep.
BFG (Pete) (27:14.122)
Yep, yep, yep, was visible. Gotcha.
Jimi (27:21.727)
So basically, climate coordination and some other relating Gitcoin rounds are really like the lifeblood of the refi movement, right? So different to other grant programs, the way that Gitcoin works is it's quadratic funding. So what that means is when people donate, the number of people that contribute at least a dollar determines the matching that those donations get.
So it can be 10 times, sometimes 100 times matching, which is pretty crazy when you're donating to these different projects. so to give a platform to everyone, we started this thing called Let's Grow Live. And so grantees 24 -7 for two weeks straight will be shilling, they'll be sharing stories, they'll be sharing their passions, they'll be collaborating with each other. If you just go to at let's grow Dow, that's L -E -T -S -G -R -O -W -D -A
You will see the Twitter spaces and you can jump up there. You can ask questions. You can jam with people. Now we're also taking that audio feed and we're plugging it into a video broadcast, which is live on 20 social media channels at the same time. So yeah, we're really like cross -pollinating communities and growing the movement, baby. Let's grow.
BFG (Pete) (28:37.454)
So basically people should watch out in, what were the dates in August? Was it like seven to 21 or something? Seven to 21, okay, two weeks. Okay, so yeah, I'll try to make sure you guys go live next week then. So there will be more time. Yeah, yeah, okay.
Jimi (28:45.229)
7 to 21, that's right, two weeks. Mm -hmm. Yeah, GG21.
Jimi (28:54.943)
Yeah, okay. That'd be amazing, man. Yeah, thank you so much. I appreciate you and this is a great pod. I like
BFG (Pete) (29:01.452)
Well, you know, it makes sense to support the stuff you're doing, right? It's all green after all. Cool. Any last words, Jimmy?
Jimi (29:09.567)
Let's grow. Let's make the market green too. Any final words? Okay. All right. I will leave you with a Beatles quote. In the end, the love you make... Wait, hold on. I butchered it. We're going to restart that. Restart that. Okay. One more time. In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. So make as much of it as humanly possible.
BFG (Pete) (29:13.986)
Yeah.
BFG (Pete) (29:25.602)
They start there. Yeah, no problem. Let's go again.
Jimi (29:39.57)
Spread it all around. There's plenty to grow around. And have a great time while doing it. Alright.
BFG (Pete) (29:43.31)
Thank you. Well, that was awesome. Thank you. I love like almost every sentence that gets turned around into something which is related to trees and growing stuff. That's awesome. It's awesome. I can imagine.
Jimi (29:54.829)
We have a whole grow -cabulary, Pete. We don't say donation anymore. We're saying grow -nation. I'll be with you growmentarily. We have so many of these grow -cab words.
BFG (Pete) (30:05.868)
Got you. Well, was great. Thank you very much, Jimmy, for the time. It was awesome having you. And you guys, this was Jimmy from 3Gens. You will find every link in the show notes. This is Web3Magic and BFG. And don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss the next part. Thank you, Jimmy.
Jimi (30:12.055)
Thank you, Pete.
Jimi (30:25.389)
Let's grow, for
